Luxor rewards a little planning and plenty of curiosity. Before building a long list of sights, decide what you most want from the visit: an introduction to ancient history, time to explore the city, or a slower stay with room for both.
Start with the two banks
The Nile divides Luxor into an East Bank and a West Bank. Karnak and Luxor Temple are on the east, while the royal burial landscapes lie across the river. These places belong to the wider heritage of ancient Thebes, recognised by UNESCO. Grouping visits by bank can make a day easier to organise and leave more time to appreciate each stop.
Leave space between the sights
A successful first day does not need to include every monument. Choose a main visit, allow time for a meal, and keep part of the afternoon flexible. An unhurried look at a single place can be more memorable than rushing between several.
Ask before setting out
Opening arrangements, tickets and transport can change. Check current details with the relevant attraction and agree transport arrangements before departure. If you would like help planning local visits, ask the Nefertiti team about the options available for your dates.
Return to your own pace
Back at the hotel, take time to rest, look through your photographs and decide what you would like to discover next. Your first visit is an introduction to Luxor, not a race to finish it.
